It appears Intel is gearing up for a gamer-focused launch for its forthcoming Nova Lake chips. Desktop CPUs equipped with big last level cache (bLLC) are expected to hit the market first.

A Gamer-Centric Strategy

Recent spec leaks regarding Nova Lake suggested that Intel might use the 'BFC' designation for chips featuring a significant amount of extra cache to boost gaming performance, similar to the approach used in AMD's X3D-style CPUs. When asked whether these BFC variants would release alongside standard models or later, leaker Jaykihn stated that "BFC will be the earliest launched among the lineup." This suggests a strategic move to capture the gaming market immediately upon the architecture's debut. It has already been noted that the architecture will launch on desktop platforms before server implementations.

Naming Scheme and Sampling Timelines

The leaker also touched upon Intel's decision to shift to a four-digit numbering scheme starting with a '4' instead of a '3'. This move is reportedly a reactionary measure to AMD's pivot to their AI 400-series Gorgon Point naming convention. According to Jaykihn, such changes in branding are never made lightly.

Regarding production, there will be a discrepancy in sampling schedules. Sampling for the DS chips—rumored to feature two compute tiles and up to 52 cores—is expected to begin in December 2026, which is later than other SKU segments in the Q1 lineup. While a definitive release window for Nova Lake remains unconfirmed, the appearance of Z990 motherboards in shipping records and the platform's compliance testing for PCIe and USB suggest the launch is approaching.
