Strange Scaffold announces Gods With Badges, a tactics game about police power

Strange Scaffold, the studio behind I Am Your Beast and El Paso, Elsewhere, has announced Gods With Badges. This narrative tactics game explores the immense power police hold over life and death.

Unveiled during the Triple-i Initiative showcase, the game is set in the dystopian future city of Scarhelm. Players step into the shoes of Harrow McClellan, a disgraced police officer returned to her original post following a scandal that has become a local legend. Every dialogue choice and turn-based encounter presents a decision to either lean into that reputation or strive to rise above it.

The gameplay loop involves patrolling open hubs to seize contraband, investigate complaints, and search alleys for evidence. When situations escalate, the perspective shifts to isometric turn-based combat, where players must take cover, rescue hostages, and decide on the appropriate level of force. A unique mechanic allows players to temporarily disable Harrow's body camera, unlocking new tactical and dialogue options at the cost of removing the public record of the encounter.

Gods With Badges has a unique development history. It began as an unreleased project titled Hard Justice by studio Artificer. Strange Scaffold has reinterpreted Artificer's foundations and materials to build their own vision. The project is also part of Project Share, an initiative by Strange Scaffold designed to encourage studios to exchange technology and explore sustainable development methods.

The game is scheduled for release on PC via Steam in 2027. The soundtrack will be composed by Kris Kirk.
