GMK TriggerKey: Keycaps with Adjustable Actuation and Tilt
GMK has released TriggerKey, a set of replacement keycaps that allow users to adjust both the actuation point and the tilt angle of their keys without replacing the existing switches. Using a lever-based mechanism, these keycaps enable individual tuning for each key, providing a way to customize the typing experience through physical adjustments.
Mimicking Magnetic Switch Functionality
The core innovation of TriggerKey is its ability to replicate features typically found in Hall Effect, TMR, or optical keyboards. While magnetic keyboards rely on software to adjust actuation distance, TriggerKey uses a mechanical approach: two built-in screws allow for manual tuning. The first screw adjusts the actuation distance between 0 and 2 mm, while the second allows for a tilt angle adjustment between 0° and 34°.

This makes the product particularly useful for transforming a standard typing-focused keyboard into a gaming-oriented one by reducing the travel distance for essential keys like WASD. However, it is important to note that unlike magnetic switches, these adjustments are physical rather than software-driven, making them best suited for traditional mechanical setups.
Design and Compatibility
Each keycap features a textured POM stem cap designed to improve comfort and reduce finger strain during long sessions. The design also allows the keycap to be rotated 180° to shift the depressing edge of the key to the north or south, depending on user preference. GMK claims the components are durable enough to withstand over 100 installation cycles.

The package includes:
- 4 TriggerKey keycaps;
- 3 interchangeable stem caps (0.7 mm, 1.2 mm, and 1.7 mm) for fine-tuning;
- an installation tool and an adjustment tool.
The set is compatible with most MX-style mechanical switch housings, including those from Cherry and Gateron. The GMK TriggerKey set is priced at $49 / €49 and comes with a two-year warranty.
