Favorites reach CCT NA Cup 1 semifinals amid event issues
The favorites of the Counter-Strike 2 CCT North America Cup 1 — Voca, Chicken Coop, LAG, and Marsborne — have all advanced to the semifinals. The four top-seeded teams successfully navigated the quarterfinals of the $5,000 online event, despite various organizational and technical setbacks.
The tournament has faced criticism regarding its production. CCT did not promote the event on social media, and HLTV declined to cover the competition, meaning no VRS points are at stake. On-game issues were also reported: Villainous leader Dylan "DYLAN" Frivalt noted a delay of over an hour due to time zone confusion by production, and HUD issues reportedly impacted gameplay visibility during the first two series.
Roster changes were also notable during the quarterfinals. Voca competed with FlyQuest RED coach Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman stepping in for Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly. Meanwhile, DETONATE utilized stand-ins Nikolaos "Pose1doNN" Antoniou and Connor "CoolComs" Barnes once again.
Quarterfinal results:
- Voca 2:0 Villainous
- LAG 2:0 DETONATE
- Marsborne 2:0 FarmVille
- Iowa Stormboar 1:2 Chicken Coop
The semifinals feature Voca vs. Chicken Coop and Marsborne vs. LAG. The winner of the event will take home $2,500. The semifinals, third-place decider, and grand final are scheduled to conclude the tournament tonight.
