Fangtopia launches on PS5 October 26
Fangtopia, a cozy puzzle game from Absolutely Games, will launch on PlayStation 5 on October 26, 2026. The title invites players to build a whimsical monster kingdom by placing tiles on a hex grid, with no time limits but a limited number of pieces to manage.
The game centers on crafting a world filled with monsters and ghouls. Players assemble their domain piece by piece, placing tiles around a central castle. While there are no time constraints, allowing for careful planning, a tile limit exists. This constraint encourages strategic placement to maximize scores and climb leaderboards.
Tiles come in six types: fields, towns, mountains, forests, railroads, and rivers. Rivers are exclusive to Ghoulish mode. Connecting matching terrain edges earns points and progresses objectives. As the world develops, tiles combine to form coherent landscapes, such as forests bordering towns or railways crossing fields. Players can undo any move to refine their placement.
Progression involves placing landmarks, which are special monuments drawn from an expanding collection. Each landmark has a specific objective; completing it rewards the player with new tiles for their deck. For example, placing a volcano near a field and mountains can increase the tile stack, enabling further expansion. A Stickerbook tracks all discovered landmarks, allowing players to inspect their details.
As tiles are placed, portals appear in the oceans. Opening these portals summons creatures like gremlins, werewolves, and banshees. Each creature has a natural habitat. Providing a home for them rewards the player with bonus tiles. Interacting with placed creatures may trigger additional surprises.
Fangtopia offers multiple modes. The standard Fangtopia mode includes all core features and is suitable for quick sessions. Ghoulish mode adds rivers as a tile type, allows swapping tiles before placement, and introduces larger tile groups that must be placed together. This mode also features a larger tile stack, resulting in longer and more complex sessions. The developers have hinted that more modes may be added in the future.
The game is designed for a relaxed experience, suitable for playing on a large screen or with PlayStation Portal. Absolutely Games describes the title as a fully formed creation, evolved from an initial idea, intended for the spooky season and beyond.
