Dragonfly: Special Force Remastered Returns on September 17 with Season Mode

Dragonfly has announced the return of the legendary shooter Special Force Remastered. The game, originally released in 2004 and serving for over two decades, has received a major overhaul: it has been rebuilt on the Unreal Engine 5, graphics have been improved, and unique mechanics from the original have been restored.

The official launch will take place on September 17. Prior to this, developers conducted a three-month early access period during which they gathered player feedback and made adjustments. One week before the release, the service was closed for final quality-of-service improvements.

A Return to Roots

Despite the existence of sequels and mobile projects, developers chose the path of a full remaster of the original version. According to Director of Business Strategy O Jin-won, this decision was made due to the need to update the game's architecture to support modern performance requirements.

The team focused on preserving tactical team-based combat and unique movements that made the original popular. At the same time, elements of balance (BM) that caused inconvenience to players in the past were excluded. New systems such as weapon progression and choice of tactical gear have been added within the framework of expanding gameplay possibilities without violating basic mechanics.

Restoring Original Gameplay

Developers made efforts to accurately imitate the sensations from playing on the old engine. In particular, diagonal movement (Ghost Step), jump shooting, and characteristic bullet grouping for the M4 rifle were restored.

Section Chief Na Heung-sik noted that it is difficult to fully recreate the original sensations on Unreal Engine 5, but the team continues to work on minimizing differences. It was also decided not to introduce group matches in the first season to avoid imbalance for newcomers.

New Content and Platforms

In the official release, there will be a seasonal mode with ranked matches, as well as the "Missile" map used at tournaments of the original game. Through the Battle Pass, players will be able to customize characters and weapons, as well as use new emotes and ceremonial animations.

The game will be available not only through Steam and Epic Games Store, but also through the Dragonfly launcher and Stove service. English language support will allow entry into markets in North America and Europe, as well as Southeast Asian countries.

Cyber sports plans

Dragonfly plans to restart the esports scene. In 2027, a World Championship is planned, with preliminary qualifiers starting at the end of 2026 or in the spring of 2027.
