The average player count for Dota 2 fell to 571.2k in September, breaking a three-month growth streak.

The average online player count for Dota 2 decreased to 571.2k in September 2026, according to Steam Charts. This marks the end of a three-month growth streak, following August's average of 617.1k players.
The decline is attributed to a lack of major updates and events during the month. While summer activity was bolstered by the Dark Carnival event and The International 2026 in August, the only significant release in September was patch 7.41f, which focused on minor hero and item balance adjustments.
Peak player counts also saw a downturn. After reaching 981.1k users in August, the peak online count dropped to 919k in September. This represents the first time in several months that the peak player count has fallen below the 1 million mark.
