Dell working on software fix for AW3926DW uniformity issues

The luminance uniformity issues affecting the Alienware AW3926QW may soon be resolved through a firmware update. The culprit, known as Convex Power Control (CPC), has been active on the monitor since its release without any user-facing controls, but Dell is actively testing a way to disable the feature entirely.

Understanding Convex Power Control and the Issue

CPC essentially functions as a burn-in protection mechanism for the OLED panel. It works by dimming the edges of the screen while maintaining full brightness in the center. The goal is to mitigate image retention from static HUD elements typically located at the periphery, while the natural movement of content in the center handles pixel degradation.

However, this implementation has led to significant visual inconsistencies. Measurements have shown brightness deviations of up to 21% from the center to the edges, resulting in poor luminance uniformity that detracts from the overall display quality.

Dell's Roadmap for a Fix

Speaking at IFA 2026, Alienware monitor lead planner Vincent Seajun Kim confirmed that the company is considering making CPC a toggleable feature. In a recent statement to TFTCentral, Dell confirmed they are continuing to test a software toggle but emphasized the need to "understand the full customer experience implications before we enable anything."

While the exact release date for the update remains unannounced—with the company only promising it "soon"—the move could address the monitor's most significant weakness. If the update allows users to manage edge dimming manually, it would resolve the primary technical grievance currently facing the device.
