BAFTA awards over £270,000 to 112 recipients in games, film, and TV
BAFTA has awarded over £270,000 in grants to 112 recipients across the UK and North America through its 2026 Prince William BAFTA Bursary and scholarship programmes. These initiatives aim to support emerging creatives in the games, film, and television industries by providing essential financial and practical assistance.
The Prince William Bursary supported 100 recipients this year, marking a 40% increase compared to last year. These grants, providing up to £2,000 each, are available to individuals in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to cover costs such as training, equipment, software, relocation, or driving lessons. The impact of the program is significant: 98% of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts reported that the grants allowed them to access career opportunities that would otherwise have been out of reach.
Scholarship programmes offer even broader support. In the UK, scholars receive up to £12,000 for tuition and living expenses, alongside mentoring and access to BAFTA events. In the US, recipients can receive up to $60,000 to study at prestigious institutions, including Columbia University, New York University, Stanford University, Loyola Marymount University, and the School for Visual Arts.
The 2026 UK games scholarship recipients include Hamzah Ali (Staffordshire University) and Ava Rogerson (Norwich University of the Arts). Additionally, the UK bursary cohort features several game artists and designers, including Bellayna Lopez, Erin Curtis, Jessica Murray, Leviathan Vi Amare, Sean Simmons, Serina Lopez, and Symoné.
