AVM Announces First FRITZ!Box with Wi-Fi 8 for 2027
AVM has announced that its first FRITZ!Box router supporting Wi-Fi 8 is planned for the first half of 2027. The company revealed the roadmap during a press conference at the IFA in Berlin, where it also showcased several new networking devices.
Alongside the Wi-Fi 8 preview, AVM presented the FRITZ!Box 5630 XGS, the FRITZ!Box 6835 5G, and the FRITZ!Repeater 6700 Pro. The company also provided a look at its upcoming flagship model, the FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90, for which a full announcement with detailed specifications has since been released.
The 2027 model will be the first FRITZ!Box to implement the Wi-Fi 8 standard, officially designated as IEEE 802.11bn. According to AVM, the next generation of wireless technology focuses less on achieving higher raw data rates and more on optimizing performance for a larger number of connected clients. A key feature will be the seamless handover of clients across multiple Wi-Fi 8 channels.
It is worth noting that the final specifications for Wi-Fi 8 are not expected to be finalized until 2028. This timeline mirrors the situation with Wi-Fi 7, where several manufacturers released routers to the market before the standard was officially completed. At this stage, AVM has not assigned a specific name or model number to the Wi-Fi 8 router, leaving several months for the final product definition.
