4K-OLED, BlackShield and ELMB: ASUS ROG Strix XG32UQDS could become more affordable
ASUS is expected to launch the new ROG Strix XG32UQDS gaming monitor soon. The device will feature a 31.5-inch QD-OLED panel with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160) and a maximum refresh rate of 180 Hz. The monitor is positioned as a more accessible option in the OLED market, incorporating specialized technologies to protect the panel and improve visual clarity.
Panel Specifications and BlackShield Technology
A key highlight of the XG32UQDS is the implementation of BlackShield technology. This feature increases the screen's scratch resistance to 3H (up from the standard 2H) and aims to reduce reddish or purplish color shifts when used in bright environments. While the panel boasts impressive specs—including 99% DCI-P3 coverage, a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time—its peak brightness is limited to 450 cd/m². Consequently, the monitor does not carry a DisplayHDR certification.
Gaming-centric features include:
- Support for FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatible Adaptive Sync to prevent screen tearing;
- The ELMB (Extreme Low Motion Blur) tool for improved motion clarity, though it cannot be used simultaneously with adaptive sync technologies;
- OLED Anti-Flicker 2.0, which reportedly reduces VRR-related flickering by up to 20% during framerate fluctuations;
- A 10-bit color depth and approximately 140 ppi pixel density.
Connectivity and Ergonomics
The monitor's I/O includes two HDMI 2.1 ports (48 Gbps), one DisplayPort 1.4, and a headphone jack. The stand offers height adjustment (up to 110 mm), tilt, and pivot capabilities, and the device is VESA compatible (100 x 100 mm). Additionally, the Neo-Proximity sensor can switch the display to a black screen when the user leaves, helping to save power and mitigate OLED burn-in risks. Notably, the three-year product warranty covers OLED burn-in issues.
According to ASUS, the ROG Strix XG32UQDS is expected to be released in the German market by the end of 2026. While the official MSRP has not been confirmed, industry estimates suggest the price may settle below €600 to remain competitive against higher-end rivals.
