AMD Ryzen 7 449: Mechrevo pairs NPU-free Zen 5 chip with RTX 5060
AMD has officially introduced the AMD Ryzen 7 449, a mobile processor that Mechrevo has paired with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU in its new Wing Dragon 15 Air 2026. The configuration highlights how AMD positions its current mobile platform for performance-oriented laptops without a dedicated AI accelerator.
The AMD Ryzen 7 449 features eight cores and 16 threads, built on a hybrid architecture of four Zen 5 and four Zen 5c cores. It reaches a maximum boost clock of 5.0 GHz and includes 16 MB of L3 cache. AMD specifies a configurable TDP range of 15 to 54 W for the processor.
Close to the Ryzen AI 7 450, but without an NPU
Technically, the AMD Ryzen 7 449 is very close to the Ryzen AI 7 450. The key difference is the absence of an XDNA NPU. AMD's official product page does not list a dedicated AI Engine for the 449, meaning the chip alone does not meet the NPU requirements for a Copilot+ PC. Clock speeds also differ slightly: the Ryzen AI 7 450 boosts up to 5.1 GHz, while the 449 tops out at 5.0 GHz.
The integrated Radeon 860M graphics is based on RDNA 3.5, with eight graphics cores and a maximum frequency of 2.8 GHz. The related Ryzen AI model allows up to 3.1 GHz for its integrated GPU. In the Mechrevo laptop, the slower integrated graphics is likely to play a secondary role, as a dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU handles demanding graphical workloads.
Mechrevo specifies up to 115 W for the RTX 5060 and a combined power draw of up to 170 W for the processor and GPU. The CPU can be operated at up to 85 W under pure CPU load. These figures come from the laptop manufacturer and are partly above AMD's official standard TDP.
Display, memory, and availability
The Wing Dragon 15 Air features a 15.3-inch OLED display with 2.5K resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. The screen covers the full DCI-P3 color gamut. The system includes 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Despite the powerful hardware, the chassis is relatively compact. Mechrevo lists a weight of approximately 1.6 kg and a minimum thickness of 18.75 mm. Cooling is handled by a dual-fan system with rear exhaust. Connectivity includes USB4, an additional USB-C port, three USB-A ports, HDMI, Ethernet, and a combined audio jack. Wireless connectivity is provided via Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
In China, the new configuration is offered for 11,499 yuan, which is approximately 1,480 euros without accounting for German taxes and import costs. A release in Germany has not yet been confirmed.
