AMD RDNA 4m firmware lands ahead of Ryzen 500 launch
AMD has uploaded firmware for its upcoming GFX11.7 graphics hardware to the Linux repository, signaling that open-source support is nearing completion ahead of the Ryzen 500 “Medusa Point” launch.
The new update covers the RDNA 4m branch, specifically including files for GFX1170 and GFX1171, while the third target, GFX1172, remains excluded. This hardware reportedly utilizes the newer DCN 4.2 display block, marking a significant step forward in the driver stack's evolution.
This firmware is one of the final pieces required for Linux distributions to support these devices out of the box. AMD has already integrated GFX11.7 support into the AMDGPU kernel driver and LLVM compiler backend, with RadeonSI and RADV support progressing through Mesa. Support for GFX1171 was notably added to Mesa 26.3 earlier this month.

The RDNA 4m architecture builds upon existing RDNA 3.5 driver paths, suggesting a familiar foundation for developers while introducing new capabilities. With the firmware now available, the groundwork is laid for full Linux desktop access on these next-generation chips once they hit the market.
