Acer Vero 16: Tool-free access to battery and SSD
Acer has unveiled the next generation of the Vero 16 laptop at IFA 2026 in Berlin, introducing a design that prioritizes tool-free maintenance and repair. The new model features a locking mechanism on the bottom panel that allows users to access the internal components without tools, making it significantly easier to replace the battery and storage drive.
Alongside the internal accessibility, the Vero 16 includes removable covers for the side ports and a detachable outer hinge. Acer also notes that the repair steps are directly engraved on the chassis to guide users through maintenance. The company aims to allow damaged port covers to be removed individually without disassembling the entire case. While Acer mentions support for processor upgrades across at least two generations, the press release provided to the media did not specify how these upgrades will be implemented or which replacement parts will be available.
Sustainability remains a core focus of the Vero series. The top cover and palm rest are each made of 50% recycled aluminum, while the bottom panel uses 60% post-consumer recycled plastic and the display frame uses 30%. Despite the use of recycled materials, the chassis is certified to MIL-STD-810H standards for durability and stability.
Under the hood, the laptop offers a range of configurations. The processor options include the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H, Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, Intel Core Ultra 9 386H, Intel Core Ultra 7 355, and several Core Ultra 5 models. Graphics are handled by the integrated solutions of the Panther Lake platform, ranging from standard Intel Graphics to the faster Intel Arc B390. Memory is capped at 32 GB of LPDDR5X, and storage is provided by a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with a maximum capacity of 512 GB.
The display lineup features a 16-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, and full DCI-P3 color coverage. The True Black HDR 500 mode can reach up to 500 nits. Two WUXGA variants with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate are also available. The brighter model offers 300 nits and 100% DCI-P3 coverage, while the touch-enabled version provides 250 nits and 95% DCI-P3 coverage.
For video conferencing, the laptop includes a 5 MP camera with infrared technology. Audio is supported by two low-vibration speakers with DTS Virtual:X. Acer bundles PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice for image and sound adjustments, along with an AcerSense key for managing performance modes, battery, and storage. The chassis measures 359.45 x 247 x 15.9 mm and weighs 1.56 kg with a 71 Wh four-cell battery that supports fast charging.
Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, an SD card reader, and a 3.5 mm combo jack. Wireless connectivity is handled by WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.6. The Acer Vero 16 is expected to be available starting in December, with pricing, regional configurations, and details on replacement parts and processor upgrades to be announced later.
