ACE COMBAT 8: Online Mode Details Revealed

Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed the online mode for ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, the flight shooter scheduled to launch on October 2, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The mode serves as the game's endgame content, featuring a persistent airbase lobby that supports up to 100 simultaneous players.

Players operate as mercenary pilots, using the airbase as a hub to deploy into various missions. The online mode maintains separate progression and save data from the single-player campaign, ensuring that the two modes do not influence each other.

The core of the online experience consists of two main mission types: CooP Assault and CooP Warfare. Both are designed for 4-player teams, with two teams participating in each match. In CooP Assault, players engage in a PvE format, working together to complete objectives and compete for the highest score. CooP Warfare introduces a PvPvE dynamic where the two teams compete against each other while also engaging with NPC forces.

A key mechanic in CooP Warfare is the "Threat Level" system. As players rack up scores without being shot down, their threat level increases. A higher threat level boosts the score gained from enemy kills but also increases the score awarded to opponents if the player is downed. Reaching a three-star threat level designates a player as an "Ace," and engagements between Aces result in significant score fluctuations that can determine the match outcome.

Special missions also appear in the online mode. Emergency Sortie challenges eight players to take on a massive weapon, a staple of the series, while Scramble pits four players against NPC rival units. Regular event missions include 4v4 team deathmatches and an 8-player deathmatch where every participant is an enemy.

Aircraft are categorized into four roles: Fighter, Attacker, Multirole, and Electronic Warfare. Players can combine special armaments and enhancement parts to define their team's tactical approach. As aircraft levels increase through online play, players unlock parameter boosts, new special armaments, and unique online-only abilities.

Progression in the online mode grants ACE PASS XP. The ACE PASS offers level-based rewards, while the paid PREMIUM ACE PASS is set to renew every two months. For Season 1, the Level 1 reward for the PREMIUM ACE PASS is the playable aircraft ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY-.

The game features a diverse roster of aircraft, including the Rafale M (Multirole), F-15J Eagle (Fighter), F-22A Raptor (Fighter), and MiG-21bis Fishbed (Fighter). Early purchase bonuses include the F-14A Tomcat (Fighter), while the Season 1 PREMIUM ACE PASS features the ADFX-02 Morgan -PIXY- (Multirole).
