Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Debuts With Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Split-Screen Privacy Display
At the Snapdragon Summit, Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. These devices feature the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series, significant silicon-carbon battery upgrades, and a novel hardware-level privacy protection system for specific display elements.
Processors and Displays
The Xiaomi 18 Pro debuts as the first phone to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is equipped with the higher-performance Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 variant. Both models can be configured with up to 16GB of "DDR5X" RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
The handsets feature 2K LTPO AMOLED panels with a 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3. The Xiaomi 18 Pro offers a more compact 6.4-inch display, whereas the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features a larger 6.9-inch panel.
Privacy and Design Innovations
A standout feature of this lineup is the selective privacy protection. Unlike existing technologies that limit viewing angles for the entire screen, the new Xiaomi devices can activate privacy modes for specific on-display elements, such as split-screen modes, floating windows, or individual notifications.
The secondary rear display, a staple of previous generations, has been scaled up to 2.7 inches. Powered by the revised Xiao AI assistant, this screen functions as a viewfinder for main-camera selfies and allows users to set up interactive widgets, custom AI wallpapers, or personalized mini-apps like timers.
Camera and Battery Life
The camera systems on both models include a 200MP primary sensor (f/1.7), a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide module with a 102-degree field of view. A 50MP sensor is dedicated to selfies.
Battery capacity has seen a major boost without increasing the chassis size, thanks to silicon-carbon technology. The Xiaomi 18 Pro houses a 7,000mAh cell, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max packs 8,500mAh. Charging capabilities include 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wireless charging. The devices are IP69 rated and ship with Xiaomi HyperOS 4 based on Android 17.
Pricing and Availability
Initial pricing in China starts at approximately $895 for the Xiaomi 18 Pro (12GB/256GB) and $1,045 for the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in the same configuration. A global rollout is expected to follow. Color options include Black, White, Icy Peach Pink, Galaxy Blue, and a Transparent edition.
