World of Horror's As Below So Above Update Adds New Gods, Locations, and Characters
Developers released a major free update for World of Horror, introducing two new cosmic threats, three protagonists, and a Scenario Mode.
The Junji Ito-inspired RPG World of Horror has received a significant free update titled As Below So Above. According to developers panstasz and publisher Ysbryd, this is the game's largest expansion to date, increasing the overall content by 20%.
The update introduces two new manifestations of the Old Gods that raise the stakes for players. The first involves IKT-YOSIS, THE FIRST NIGHTMARE, which sleeps in a massive chamber beneath the mountains; rituals performed to wake him will reshape the world and trigger strange weather patterns. The second threat, THE WAR FOR SHIOKAWA, introduces a chaotic scenario where four cults simultaneously attempt to summon their eldritch masters, plunging the town into darkness.
Players can now choose from three new human protagonists: Kiriko, an expert in Tarot; Satoshi, a seasoned hiker; and Makoto, a member of a school AV club. Additionally, the game features 10 new allies, who can be encountered through a reworked conversation system that triggers randomly during investigations.
The content expansion is extensive, adding the Mountains location, 60 new events, 19 enemies, 30 items, and three new challenges. A new Scenario Mode has also been implemented, featuring self-contained stories set before the main game's timeline. The first of these, a Worldlet of Horror, follows the hunt for three students lost in the woods and offers multiple endings.
Technical improvements include a new modding system that remains backwards compatible with all existing 1.0 mods. The update also brings various quality-of-life features, bug fixes, and new mechanics for injuries and curses.
