Why Wanchu Matters for NARAKA: BLADEPOINT's New Chapter
Wanchu is interesting not just because of water, but because water changes match decisions.
Why Wanchu Matters
NARAKA: BLADEPOINT received a major anniversary update on July 2, and the main reason to treat it as more than a routine patch is the new Wanchu map. The developers describe it as a space shaped by water, tides, underwater combat, and route decisions rather than a simple set of arenas.
Wanchu includes five major areas: Twin Luminaries City, Valley of the Colossus, Immortal-Seekers' Ruins, Wave Fort, and Dark Pearl Abyss. The map is built around contrast: dense urban space, ruins, fortifications, deep water, and special-rule locations.
Water as a System
The official notes describe water as more than scenery. The starting water level depends on match weather, followed by two tide cycles. The first shift breaks the Tidehidden Cave seal, allowing players to break a stone gate and reach valuable Stashes. The second shift changes activity: high water spawns Tide Fish, while low water spawns Spirit Clams.
That gives the map a schedule. A squad must decide when a zone opens, when it is worth entering, and when a delayed route becomes a trap. In battle royale design, these timings can matter more than raw character strength.
Underwater Combat and 3D Pressure
The anniversary announcement says NARAKA takes battle royale underwater for the first time with dedicated underwater combat. Players can dodge, ascend, descend, and fight in a three-dimensional space.
That fits NARAKA's identity, but it also creates a clear test: underwater fights must remain readable. If animations, dodges, and attack angles are clear enough, Wanchu can refresh both rotations and duels.
Route-Shaping Mechanics
Conch Boat appears in the warning zone on the second Spirit Well refresh and lets players capture a Spirit Well for free rare items. Oracle monarch mechanics add events such as Ethereal Descent, Primal Echo, and Divine Grace Vault. Foundry adds a new Rift Dealer tab for crafting six armor types: Soul-Devouring Armor, Habitat Armor, Aquatic Armor, Rock-Steady Armor, Thick Hide Armor, and Sharp Bone Armor.
Where the source does not expose an exact item string, this article does not invent a missing name. Unconfirmed labels remain unconfirmed.
The Fifth Anniversary Frame
The update arrives alongside NARAKA's fifth anniversary. Confirmed anniversary content includes five weeks of rewards, the new hero Ye Xiu, the Kaleidoscope Parasol weapon, the Stormchant extraction map, and the White Snake boss in Baidi Palace.
Wanchu looks strongest not because of raw size, but because it tries to connect tides, underwater routes, high-value points, and new interactions into one match system. If water changes when and where players choose to fight, this can be a rare battle royale map that alters the tempo of the whole game.
