TGS 2026 Spotlight: 10 Winners of the Japan Game Awards
The Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA) held the Japan Game Awards Future category ceremony today at Makuhari Messe. The winners were selected entirely through votes from visitors and general gamers, highlighting the most anticipated unreleased titles showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Leading the list is Square Enix's Romancing SaGa 3: Destiny Unites, a full remake of the 1995 Super Famicom classic. The title features high-definition graphics, full voice acting, and a rearranged soundtrack while preserving the core mechanics fans love. It is scheduled for release on February 16, 2027, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (including the successor).
Bandai Namco Entertainment secured two spots. The Ace Combat series returns with Ace Combat 8: Wings of Shev, a 30th-anniversary milestone featuring massive aerial battles and support for up to 100 players in online modes. It launches on October 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Additionally, Gundam Rogue Orbit was recognized for its realistic art style and intense mechanical combat, with a release set for March 5, 2027.
The horror and action genres saw significant recognition with Madoujo no Inshumura from Good Smile Company, a mystery visual novel, and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse from Konami**. The latter is a 2D Metroidvania set in Paris, 23 years after the events of the third installment. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is slated for a global simultaneous release on October 15, 2026, across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Other major highlights include Persona 4 Revival from Atlus, which features a complete 3D reconstruction of Inaba City, and the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Relevation from Square Enix. The latter introduces the FITS combat system and is expected to launch on April 8 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Rounding out the Future category are Super Danganronpa 2x2 by Spike Chunsoft (delayed to 2027), the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension DLC from Capcom, and Stranger Than Heaven from Sega>, an epic period drama spanning 50 years of Japanese history.
