StarCraft in 2575: Details on Blizzard's Upcoming Shooter
Blizzard's upcoming shooter, slated for a 2030 release, will take players to the year 2575—a time set 70 years after the conclusion of the epic events in StarCraft II. The story unfolds in the Koprulu Sector, where rising resource scarcity and political shifts are setting the stage for a new era of conflict.
The narrative focuses on a period where the peace established after the End War has begun to fracture. Reports suggest that the Terran Dominion has undergone significant political upheaval. Following the reign of Valerian Mengsk, a radical faction known as the "New Sons of Korhal" has risen to power, advocating for aggressive expansion. This shift has led to border tensions with Zerg and Protoss territories, potentially igniting a new large-scale war.
The primary setting is expected to be the planet Roxara and its moon. According to established lore, Roxara is a colonial world with deep historical roots, having been visited by the Xel'naga and serving as a site for Protoss during the Aeon of Strife. The moon has also been identified in lore as a strategic mining site and a location for secret experiments involving Zerg Infestors.

Gameplay is designed around a third-person perspective where players take on the role of a Marine. Director Dan Hay has indicated that players will explore an open world and upgrade their CMC power armor. The progression system is expected to allow for extensive customization: players could potentially modify their suits for high mobility, stealth capabilities, or heavy firepower, effectively turning a standard Marine into a specialized combat unit. The developers aim for a sense of groundedness, maintaining the use of iconic equipment like Gauss rifles, complete with realistic mechanical details like jamming issues.

While the project is still in development, it aims to move beyond simple combat. The game promises a sophisticated political narrative where the three races may face complex dilemmas, ranging from resource-driven skirmishes to uneasy alliances, offering a more nuanced view of the StarCraft universe compared to the traditional RTS format.
