Star Wars: Zero Company launches August 27 on PC and consoles

Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Bit Reactor have confirmed the release date for Star Wars: Zero Company. The game will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 27, 2026.

The studio describes the title as an evolution of the genre, drawing inspiration from classic tactics games. Set during the Clone Wars, players take on the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer who was unjustly discharged and now leads a mercenary team investigating the cult known as the Infinite Coil.

XCOM-style combat mechanics

The core gameplay revolves around turn-based tactics with a strong emphasis on cover. Similar to XCOM, players must use terrain to protect their units from enemy fire. Tall objects provide full cover, significantly reducing the chance of being hit.

The squad consists of operators with various classes, ranging from close-quarters specialists to snipers and medics. Unique abilities are a key feature; for instance, clone soldier Trick can revive once after falling in battle.

Bond system and difficult choices

A major new element is the bond system between squad members. Completing missions allows players to increase their bond level with different characters, unlocking new training options and stat boosts.

However, choices are often tough: some decisions may improve relations with one character while damaging them with another. The game also includes 'Critical Decision' events where players must choose between two opposing plans to stop the enemy's advancement.

Difficulty and consequences

Enemies do not sleep: they can reinforce during missions, requiring careful preparation from the player. If a character takes three critical hits, they die permanently ('Permadeath'). Fallen heroes are memorialized at the base camp.

Developers have also added an option to disable this feature for those who prefer a more forgiving gameplay experience.
