Sony to skip CES 2027 for first time since expo's inaugural event in 1967

A Sony spokesperson told Bloomberg that the decision reflects a strategic shift in the company's priorities. The focus is moving toward entertainment, intellectual property, and technologies designed to support creators. The company stated that it continuously evaluates its approach to events based on the specific needs of its diverse business sectors.

Historically, Sony has used CES as a platform for major hardware and software reveals. Notable examples include the unveiling of the PlayStation 5 logo in 2020 and the announcement of PlayStation VR2 and Horizon: Call of the Mountain in 2022. While the company did not have a dedicated booth at this year's event, it did showcase the Afeela electric vehicle through its joint venture with Honda.

This move follows a broader trend of Sony being less present at major in-person gaming conferences. The company has not attended Gamescom since 2019, opting instead for digital showcases like State of Play. Meanwhile, rivals such as Nintendo and Xbox continue to maintain a strong physical presence at large-scale industry exhibitions.
