The environment features a maze of dioramas showcasing Dwarven furnishings for various rooms. Interactive buttons trigger short demonstrations by ghostly salespeople, introducing players to unique items like Stenrygg seats, Tavan rugs, and Gruskok kitchen sets. The area is not merely a show hall; it contains unique gear and secrets easily missed without careful exploration.

The humor strikes a balance between groan-worthy gags and genuine wit. One notable joke involves a skeleton found in the loos, bearing a note indicating they died after getting lost among the labyrinthine halls—a subtle nod to the infamous IKEA signage experience rather than a direct retailer endorsement. This self-aware touch prevents the mod from feeling too robotic or overly reverent, even when presenting spells that fire the retailer's famous Swedish meatballs.

The main attraction awaits in a chamber behind the store: Kallax. Armed with a tome mimicking an IKEA instruction manual and a staff shaped like an Allen key, players assemble the unit. Once the shelves are inserted, Kallax springs to life, voiced by comedian Matt Berry. He becomes a new follower who scrapes along the ground behind you, carrying all your burdens much like the base game's companion Frea. The adventure continues as Kallax quests players for heirlooms from his missing master and an assistant who can shed light on his existence. Players can order Kallax to clean up clutter in ancient Nordic ruins to unblock passages. The final chamber is described as utterly majestic, concluding a journey that includes some of Skyrim's longest-running jokes. The mod stands out because it was created without leaning on the mad Daedric prince Sheogorath, avoiding the common crutch of tapping the fourth wall while maintaining official approval.

Despite its creative success, the review notes that Kallax Storageborn should not necessarily serve as a blueprint for other corporations inserting ads into games. The line between endearing charm and off-putting cringe is very thin, relying heavily on a unique blend of British and Scandinavian humor. An advert for an American brand like Monster Energy or Little Caesars would likely feel more in-your-face and forced. Skyrim's meme-filled reputation makes it suitable for this tongue-in-cheek approach, but it remains an exception rather than the ideal test case for general corporate advertising.

While it may not inspire legions to believe they can assemble an entire floor's worth of bookcases without ending up with at least one screw out of place, Kallax Storageborn is a well-crafted, self-aware gag that deserves more than five minutes of a player's time.
