Rush defeats Light 4-2 to secure ASL Season 22 Finals spot
In the ASL Season 22 semifinals, 'Rush' Yoo Young-jin (유영진) secured a spot in the grand finals after a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Lee Jae-ho 'Light' (이재호). Despite falling behind early in the series, Yoo Young-jin managed to turn the tide in this StarCraft matchup to become the first player to advance to the tournament's final stage.
The battle between the two Terran players took place on October 5 at the Freakup Studio in Seoul. Yoo Young-jin opened the series with a decisive win on AttitudeSE, leveraging superior unit numbers to strike Lee Jae-ho's expansion just over seven minutes into the game. However, 'Light' responded immediately on Backrooms, using his Wraiths to dismantle Yoo Young-jin's tank lines and equalize the score at 1-1.
The momentum shifted during the middle stages of the series. Lee Jae-ho took a 2-1 lead on OdysseyRE by utilizing a heavy siege tank and Goliath push that Yoo Young-jin could not effectively repel. The series appeared to be slipping away, but Yoo Young-jin showed remarkable resilience on Aeolus. By effectively managing his Goliath and Wraith units, he neutralized Lee Jae-ho's attempts to harass his workers and leveled the score at 2-2.
The final stretch highlighted Yoo Young-jin's superior map control. On OctagonSE, he maintained constant pressure on Lee Jae-ho's expansions, eventually securing the match point. In the sixth and final map, Knockout, Yoo Young-jin dominated the engagement. Although Lee Jae-ho attempted to disrupt the economy with Wraiths, Yoo Young-jin's methodical advancement of Siege Tanks and Vultures proved unstoppable. The match concluded 11 minutes and 56 seconds into the final map, cementing Yoo Young-jin's place in the grand finals.
