GEN Ruler: "Braum really shouldn't be used much in this meta... I don't think we'll use him again anytime soon"

The victory ended a difficult period for the reigning champions, who had previously suffered consecutive losses against T1 and Dplus KIA. However, Ruler admitted that Gen.G still have improvements to make, explaining that the team's success against Hanwha Life came more from a strong draft and opponent mistakes rather than a complete return to peak form.

Gen.G entered the match after suffering two straight defeats in the Legend Group. Despite the setbacks, they remained in contention for a top-two finish, which would grant them direct qualification to the second round of the LCK Playoffs. After finally securing a win, Ruler explained that the team focused on fixing internal issues rather than simply moving on from the losses.

"First of all, in terms of the game, there were a lot of areas where we weren't on the same page as a team. Because of that, the games naturally ended up flowing in a really strange way."

We all talked through what the problems were, what caused certain situations, and said, 'If we've had these issues up to now, let's change them like this, and bring back the things we used to do well.' I think those areas improved.

Ruler explains why Gen.G defeated Hanwha Life Esports

Gen.G secured a 2:1 victory over Hanwha Life Esports, with Ruler being named Player of the Match for his performance. According to the ADC, draft advantages played a major role in deciding the outcome of the series.

The veteran player emphasized that preparation before the game was one of the biggest reasons behind the victory.

"Looking back on today's games, I think the games where we won draft-wise were the ones we were able to win. That made me realize again how important draft is."

However, Ruler was cautious about calling the result a full recovery for Gen.G. He believes the team still needs more time to prove they have regained their strongest form.

"The draft was very good for us, but rather than saying it was just good, I think it worked out because the opponent made mistakes, more than because we played especially well."

Ruler addresses Gen.G's Braum pick and the current bot lane meta

One of the most surprising moments of the series was Gen.G's decision to draft Braum, a champion rarely seen in the current professional meta. Ruler revealed that the pick was based on a specific situation rather than a belief that the champion is generally strong.

"Honestly, I usually think Braum really shouldn't be used much in the current meta. But in that situation, we judged that he looked good, so he came out. That said, I don't think we'll use him again anytime soon."

Ruler also explained why the second game became difficult for Gen.G after selecting Braum. The composition required a stronger early-game performance from the bot lane, but the team failed to create the pressure they needed.

"Since we picked Braum, botlane needed to play the lane much more aggressively and take the lead, but we really didn't play the early lane well. I think that was a major reason we lost."

Ruler believes traditional ADCs are returning

While non-marksman champions have frequently appeared in the bot lane recently, all three games between Gen.G and Hanwha Life featured traditional ADC picks. Ruler explained that professional teams are gradually moving away from alternative bot lane options.

According to him, champion swaps and increased tank presence have reduced the effectiveness of non-marksmen.

"I think non-marksman picks are being used less now in pro play. When tanks are picked, non-marksmen can feel pretty useless in teamfights. So I think that's why they're being used less."

Ruler also welcomed the upcoming ADC buffs, saying that changes to the role could have a meaningful impact, especially in solo queue where non-marksman picks remain popular.

Ruler praises Hanwha Life's bot lane and KT Rolster's newcomer

During the series, Ruler faced the Hanwha Life bot lane duo of Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyung and Yu "Delight" Hwan-jung. The Gen.G ADC highlighted their ability to absorb pressure as one of their biggest strengths.

"I'd say they're really good when they pick champions that absorb pressure. I think that's one of their strengths. Because they absorbed pressure so well, we couldn't win lane."

Ruler also shared his thoughts on KT Rolster's new ADC Park "FenRir" Kang-jun, who recently joined the team's main roster. Gen.G's next opponent will be KT, making the matchup another important test for the reigning champions.

"Even though it was a really unfavorable laning phase, FenRir kept it even and even forced Ashe's Flash. Seeing things like that, I thought he had a real feel for the game and that he was good."

Gen.G aim to continue climbing after ending losing streak

With the victory over Hanwha Life Esports, Gen.G returned to the race for the top positions in the Legend Group. Ruler believes the win can become a turning point, but the team still needs to show more consistency.

"Thankfully, we won today, and that made us think we can play even better. We'll do our best to beat KT Rolster as well, so we can feel like we can keep climbing higher."

Gen.G will now look to build momentum against KT Rolster as they continue their push for a favorable playoff position.
