The incident involved an MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G VENTUS 3X. According to the owner, the card had been operating normally for about a month without any overclocking. The issue arose during a session of GTA V using a DLSS NR injection mod to enable DLSS 5—a feature NVIDIA has not officially released for this title. After five minutes of gameplay at approximately 80 FPS, the display began flashing and froze, forcing a hard shutdown of the system.

Boot issues and hardware replacement

Following the crash, the PC failed to boot with the RTX 5080 installed. Testing with the integrated graphics of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D confirmed the system could boot normally without the discrete GPU. Reinstalling the card triggered the same failure. The user eventually replaced the unit with another RTX 5080 of the same model, which restored normal operation.
