Rockstar developer union could encompass over 1,600 workers

The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has revealed that if a recognition vote is successful, the union could represent more than 1,600 Rockstar Games employees in the UK, potentially becoming the largest recognized union in the country's games sector.

According to the IWGB, the bargaining unit would include nearly all Rockstar staff in the UK below the director level. This movement is specific to the UK studios and will not include Rockstar's global workforce in the US or India, which totals over 4,700 employees.

The recognition votes are scheduled to take place between November 12 and November 26, coinciding with the period around the GTA 6 console launch. Shanti Easton-Steel, a member of the Rockstar Game Workers Union Committee, stated that the goal is to ensure honesty regarding decisions affecting staff, specifically citing concerns over the gender pay gap, overtime pay policies, and job security following major releases.

This organizational push comes amid an ongoing employment tribunal. Rockstar previously dismissed 34 mostly UK-based employees, alleging they risked leaking confidential information via a Discord server used by organizers. The IWGB has countered that these dismissals were motivated by an attempt to prevent unionization.
