Rockstar aims to meet massive expectations for GTA 6
The development of Grand Theft Auto VI has become a monumental undertaking. In a conversation with Edge magazine, Rockstar North head of development Aaron Garbut spoke about the immense pressure of meeting the series' astronomical standards, especially after a 13-year wait for a new entry in the franchise.
Scale without compromise
Garbut emphasized that the team has avoided taking the easy route or simply delivering what fans might expect. He stated that the studio has not compromised on scale, detail, interactivity, story, or the open world. To illustrate the sheer difficulty of maintaining such high standards, he used a striking metaphor: "I feel like we've built a pyramid on Everest."
This ambition suggests that Rockstar may be doubling down on the systemic depth seen in Red Dead Redemption 2. While Red Dead Redemption 2 focused on organized crime through its missions, it also introduced intricate life-simulation elements—such as grooming, eating, and interacting with locals—that made the world feel lived-in and reactive.
PC release and platforms
Currently, there is no announced release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. While rumors suggest the wait might not be long, historical patterns indicate a delay for the PC version. Rockstar typically releases PC editions at least seven months after consoles, a gap that lasted 18 months for Grand Theft Auto V.
