Riot Games to Replace Desktops and Test Wireless Mice at Champions
The setup for "Champions" Shanghai is getting an upgrade. Leo Faria, head of VALORANT esports, announced that new tabletops will be installed before the upcoming matches. This change is intended to test whether players can return to using wireless mice without the interference issues experienced earlier in the tournament.
The technical issues were traced back to metallic elements within the table structures, which caused signal interference and mouse stuttering. Following an investigation, Riot Games implemented a temporary fix, but the long-term solution involves a complete redesign of the surfaces. If the wireless connections prove unstable on the new tabletops, organizers will immediately revert to wired setups.
Leo Faria noted that the previous match day proceeded smoothly, aside from minor audio issues at the start. He expressed gratitude to the players for temporarily switching to wired mice and emphasized that work continues to ensure all technical aspects are fully resolved.
Addressing the scale of the production, Faria clarified that all Riot Games projects are managed by a unified global production team, even when collaborating with regional partners like TJ Sports (a Tencent and Riot Games joint venture) in China. He noted that international events like Champions are significantly more complex to organize than regional leagues like VCT CN due to the scale and language requirements.
