Radeon Drivers in July: How to Update Without Losing Stability
July game releases are a good reason to check your driver, but a bad reason to update blindly.
The Main Rule
A new driver is useful not because it is new, but because it solves your specific problem: fixes a bug, adds game support, improves a technology, or resolves compatibility.
If your system is stable and release notes do not describe your situation, you can wait for a calm update window.
How to Read Release Notes
Read Fixed Issues first, then Known Issues. Many users only read the first part and then run into a limitation the manufacturer already listed.
Pay attention to your GPU series, game, upscaling technology, recording, and multi-monitor scenarios.
Short Post-Install Test
After installing, do not stop at the desktop. Launch two or three games you actually play and check shader compilation, overlay, alt-tab, video capture, temperatures, and stability for at least 15-20 minutes.
If a problem appears in one game only, look for an in-game workaround before rolling back the whole driver.
- Install for a concrete benefit.
- Read Known Issues.
- Test your own scenarios.
- Do not update on tournament or raid day.
