Quiet Express Room 909 Demo: A Mystery of Time Loops on the Rails
During The MIX Fall Showcase 2026, STUDIO909 officially announced and released a demo for their upcoming mystery adventure, Quiet Express Room 909, on Steam. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing the game's atmosphere.
Set aboard the transcontinental train known as the Quiet Express, Quiet Express Room 909 is a mystery adventure centered on a seven-day time loop. Players take on the role of a traveler searching for the elusive "Room 909"—a room that supposedly does not exist and is unknown to the crew and passengers alike.
The gameplay revolves around a recurring seven-day cycle. Every journey ends in a catastrophic derailment on the seventh day, forcing the player to restart from the beginning. To break the loop, players must uncover the truth behind the accident and the mystery of the non-existent room by interacting with a diverse cast of passengers, including giants and homunculi.
A standout mechanic is the ability to influence the train's composition. Players can choose which types of cars—such as dining, passenger, or freight cars—follow the next door, potentially uncovering secret passages or hidden items. The demo provides approximately 30 minutes of gameplay, specifically focusing on the segment where players attempt to prevent the derailment on the seventh day.
Directed by Kazuhide Oka, the creator behind Natsunokanta and Girls Made Pudding, the project comes from STUDIO909, a studio that has been selected for the Sofu indie game acceleration program by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The full game is slated for a 2027 release.
