Putty World 35th Anniversary: A Reimagined Classic at TGS2026
At TGS2026, SYSTEM 3 showcased Putty World 35th Anniversary, a project described not as a simple remaster, but as an "evolution" of the legendary platforming series. The game is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in Q2 2027.
The title aims to be a definitive collection, merging content from the original Putty (1992), Super Putty, and Putty Squad. The visual overhaul is significant: the original pixel art has been replaced with 3D models created in 3ds Max, featuring smooth animations designed to convey character emotions through expressive body language. The gameplay will support a stable 60 fps, ensuring a modern, fluid experience while maintaining the classic feel.
In addition to the core series, the game introduces over 45 new enemy types and new mechanics, such as interacting with original characters who provide items to the player. The movement offers more freedom than the original side-scrollers, allowing for full multi-directional navigation within stages.
During TGS2026, SYSTEM 3 CEO Mark Cale discussed the industry's current trends, noting that the retro gaming boom represents a return to "simple and fun games." Cale emphasized that staying adaptive and maintaining passion are the keys to the company's 40-year survival, bridging the gap between nostalgic gameplay and modern technical standards.
