Moss developer Polyarc Games announces closure
Polyarc Games, the developer behind the Moss series, is shutting down. The Seattle-based studio announced its decision to wind down active development after nearly 12 years in the industry.
The news was shared via LinkedIn, where the studio stated that its time in game development has come to an end. As part of the closure process, Polyarc Games has provided a recruiting spreadsheet to assist affected staff in finding new employment opportunities.
The shutdown follows the recent launch of Moss: The Forgotten Relic, which brought the original two games to non-VR platforms. Earlier this year, the studio faced significant setbacks, laying off 30 employees after failing to secure funding following the cancellation of a major project.
Founded in 2015 by former Bungie developers Tam Armstrong, Danny Bulla, and Chris Alderson, the studio built a reputation through its VR adventure puzzles. Their catalog includes the original Moss (2018), its sequel (2022), and the online competitive strategy game Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. Throughout its history, the studio raised $3.5 million in 2016 and an additional $9 million in 2020, with a strategic focus on expanding into augmented reality (AR).
