The clip, which features Wingull, the player character, and Mr. Briney, displays a level of visual clarity that is impossible on original Game Boy Advance hardware.
Several factors have caught the attention of the community. The video lasts exactly 30 seconds, matching the length of the automatic gameplay capture feature on Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, official promotional materials typically avoid using emulated versions of legacy titles, suggesting the footage is not simply a recording of the original 2002 releases.
Datamining efforts also provide technical context. According to Kotaku, the recent Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen ports for Switch appear to include ROM support for all third-generation mainline games, including Pokémon Emerald. This suggests that the necessary groundwork for running these titles on modern hardware may already be in place.
