Pokémon Fossil Museum to Open in Gwangju
Pokémon Korea has revealed the detailed schedule for the special Pokémon Fossil Museum exhibition. The event is set to take place at the Gwangju National Science Museum from December 19, 2024, through August 31, 2027.
The Pokémon Fossil Museum is an educational exhibition designed to teach paleontology by drawing comparisons between Fossil Pokémon from the video game series and real-world prehistoric creatures. The exhibit explores the similarities and differences between Pokémon and actual prehistoric life, showcasing the excavation and research process through the lens of the Pokémon universe.
Visitors will be able to see dinosaur skeletal specimens like Tarbosaurus alongside Tyrantrum, as well as ammonite fossils next to Omanyte. This approach aims to deliver foundational paleontological knowledge in an engaging and accessible way by presenting Pokémon and real fossils side by side.
The exhibition is a co-creation between The Pokémon Company and Japan's National Museum of Nature and Science. Following its tour across various locations in Japan, the exhibition has begun its international tour. It is currently running at the Field Museum in Chicago, U.S., until April 11, 2027. Gwangju marks the second international location for the exhibit after Chicago.
Specific visitor guidelines and ticket reservation details have not yet been announced. Further information is expected to be released sequentially via official social media channels and the official website.
