Path of Exile 2 guide: Lightning Sorcerer in patch 0.5 — best farming build
Patch 0.5 in Path of Exile 2 significantly reworked lightning skills for the Sorcerer: Chain Lightning's damage increased by 40%, and the new "Overcharge" passive allows chains to amplify when the Stormcaller charge is active. The build is now one of the most efficient farming options for Atlas endgame content.
Build concept
The core mechanic is Chain Lightning with maximised chain count and uptime on Electrocution. The loop is straightforward: maintain Electrocution on all enemies while Overcharge converts each stack into additional chain amplification. Clear speed is excellent; boss damage is strong with Vaal Lightning Warp as a burst cooldown.
Key skills
- Chain Lightning — primary attack, 4 chains baseline (scales with passives)
- Arcane Surge — cast speed buff triggered after mana expenditure
- Arc of Contraction — AOE clear for dense packs
- Temporal Chains — defensive slow for survivability
- Vaal Lightning Warp — mobility tool and burst damage cooldown on bosses
Passive priorities
- Overcharge — mandatory; take immediately on entering endgame
- Lightning Damage clusters — 3 nodes
- Lightning Penetration — 2 nodes
- Cast Speed (+15% total) — via Major nodes along the path
- Life nodes — minimum 120% bonus life along the route
Gear targets
Staff: +1 to level of Lightning skills, cast speed, lightning resistance penetration.
Body armour: Life, resistances — optionally an additional Chain on Lightning skills.
Gloves: Cast speed, Shock chance (+10% minimum).
Belt: Life + Flask effect modifiers.
Skill rotation
- Enter pack → Arc of Contraction to apply Shock
- Activate Arcane Surge
- Spam Chain Lightning — chains propagate through shocked enemies
- Use Vaal Lightning Warp on bosses for maximum burst window
The build clears T15+ maps comfortably and handles Maven content at higher investment. Budget to start: approximately 10 Exalted; full optimised version: 50+. Patch 0.5 made the Lightning Sorcerer one of the best divine-farming options heading into mid-2026.
