Capcom and GamePia Showcase 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2

Capcom and GamePia hosted a media preview event for 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword' on August 29 in Seoul. Attendees were able to experience builds for both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, which will launch alongside the game's official release.

The preview focused on gameplay following the official demo. The Kyoto region was presented as a semi-open world where players cleanse the city of oni (demons) by completing quests, engaging in side missions, and rescuing civilians during random encounters.

Miyamoto Musashi, the protagonist, uses Ryudo Shinno Temple as a base for character progression. Players can upgrade equipment, restore health, and train skills in a special 'Training Ground' space. Temporary bases called 'Parmaekin' allow inventory management and difficulty adjustments at any time.

Combat mechanics have been expanded with the ability to use environmental objects like carts, tatami mats, and laundry for attacks or defense. The game emphasizes parrying and counter-attacking systems that help manage combat dynamics. Additionally, absorbing enemy souls adds a tactical layer to battles.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version runs at a fixed 30 frames per second. Journalists noted that the difference in smoothness is noticeable after comparing it with the PS5 build, although the graphics and controller handling remain clear and intuitive.
