NVIDIA RTX 5080 24GB reportedly launching in Q1 2027, board partners still waiting for details
According to reports from BenchLife, NVIDIA is preparing a GeForce RTX 5080 equipped with 24GB of GDDR7 memory for a potential release in Q1 2027. This new configuration is expected to replace the existing 16GB model rather than being added as an additional option.
The reported move suggests a significant shift in NVIDIA's high-end consumer lineup. If these rumors hold true, the 24GB RTX 5080 would become the flagship GeForce model, effectively succeeding both the current 16GB version and the RTX 5090 series in terms of top-tier positioning.
Development status and partner updates
However, the timeline remains subject to change. BenchLife reports that add-in card (AIC) partners have not yet received official development documentation for the 24GB variant. Currently, partners have reportedly only received verbal assurances that the necessary technical materials will be provided soon, leaving the Q1 2027 window unconfirmed.
The jump to 24GB of VRAM represents a 50% increase over the current 16GB specification. This capacity boost is likely tied to the rumored use of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules. It remains unclear whether this product will be marketed as a RTX 5080 SUPER or if it will be a completely new designation.
GB202 chip reallocation
In addition to the potential lineup changes, reports suggest that NVIDIA is redirecting the supply of "GB202" GPUs toward its RTX PRO series. This shift may impact the availability of consumer-grade flagship cards, including the RTX 5090 and its regional variants like the RTX 5090 D. Sources indicate this might be an internal production allocation adjustment rather than a formal discontinuation of the gaming series.
