Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 24GB could arrive by December
The holiday season might bring a significant hardware refresh. According to recent reports, Nvidia is reportedly accelerating plans for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 24GB, with a potential release window as early as December.
The news comes via a source on ChannelGate, a tech insider platform focused on graphics card distribution in China. The source claims that Nvidia is "accelerating the pace of listing" for the RTX 5080 24GB variant. While a January release is considered a likely target, a rapid rollout could see these cards hitting the market this December.
Inventory shifts and market changes
The move appears to be driven by stock availability. Reports suggest that current RTX 5080 16GB inventory in China could run dry by the end of the year. Consequently, Nvidia is expected to discontinue the 16GB model in the region, positioning the 24GB version as the de facto flagship alongside the regional RTX 5090D V2.
This shift occurs amid broader uncertainty regarding the RTX 5090 lineup. Although Nvidia has denied claims of discontinuing the flagship, some reports indicate that board partners are facing supply issues. It is alleged that the GB202 GPU and the associated 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM are no longer available for order by manufacturers.
Expected pricing
Nvidia has not officially confirmed the existence of an RTX 5080 refresh. However, if the rumors hold true, the price tag is expected to be substantial. Initial estimates place the RTX 5080 24GB at approximately $2,000, matching the launch MSRP of the standard RTX 5090.
