Nintendo has officially revised the MSRP for the Nintendo Switch 2. Starting September 1, 2026, the console will cost $499.99 in the US (up from $449.99), €499.99 in Europe, and $679.99 in Canada. In Japan, prices rise earlier — from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980 starting May 25.
Nintendo says the increase responds to 'structural market condition changes' expected to persist long-term.
Nintendo's official statement frames the price increase as a response to "various changes in market conditions expected to persist over the medium to long term."
Three Reasons for the Hike
- Memory chip shortage — AI-driven DRAM demand has inflated prices industry-wide. Samsung's 18-day worker strike, which began May 21, 2026, is adding further pressure on global HBM and DRAM supply.
- US tariffs — Nintendo, like other hardware makers, faces import duties raising the cost of components and finished hardware.
- Currency headwinds — the yen's weakness against the dollar and euro makes global pricing increasingly difficult to maintain.
New Prices by Region
- US: $449.99 → $499.99 (effective September 1, 2026)
- Canada: $599.99 → $679.99
- Europe: €449.99 → €499.99
- Japan: ¥49,980 → ¥59,980 (effective May 25, 2026)
Should You Buy Now?
US and European buyers still have until August 31 to purchase at the current price. Nintendo has not announced any changes to game or accessory pricing as part of this revision.
