MSI has added the MAG B550 Tomahawk WiFi to its lineup, targeting users who want to stick with DDR4 memory while still accessing modern networking features like 2.5GbE LAN and Wi-Fi 6E.

The new ATX motherboard is built around the AMD B550 chipset and supports Socket AM4 processors, including the Ryzen 5000 and 3000 series, as well as the recently launched Ryzen 5 5500F. It accommodates up to 128GB of DDR4 memory, with speeds reaching 5,100MT/s depending on the module configuration. While it lacks the latest technologies such as Wi-Fi 7 and PCIe 5.0, the board remains capable for mid-range builds, provided the CPU and GPU are sufficiently fast.

For gamers, the board can be paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for strong performance, while enthusiasts might consider the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X, though overclocking may be limited by its 8+2+1 Duet Rail power delivery system. The PCIe 4.0 interface offers adequate bandwidth for GPUs and SSDs, with two M.2 slots featuring Shield Frozr heatsinks and four SATA 6Gb/s ports. Additionally, there are three extra PCIe slots: one x4 and two x1 connectors, though the board does not include convenience features like PCIe or M.2 unlock buttons.

The rear I/O panel includes a PS/2 connector, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs for integrated graphics, three 3.5mm audio jacks, two USB 2.0 ports, two USB-A 5Gbps ports, one USB-A 10Gbps port, and a single USB-C 10Gbps port. Front panel headers support four USB 2.0, two USB-A 5Gbps, and one USB-C 5Gbps ports. MSI has not yet announced pricing or availability, but given the $159.99 price of the similar MAG B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi, this model is expected to retail slightly lower due to its smaller VRM and SATA configuration.
