Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 has much worse input lag than PS5

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 exhibits noticeably higher input lag compared to the PS5 version, which could put Nintendo players at a disadvantage during multiplayer matches.

Technical measurements from Digital Foundry revealed multiplayer latency of 81ms when the console is docked and an average of 100ms in portable mode. In contrast, the PS5 maintains a latency of 49ms. The tests were conducted using wireless controllers: a Switch 2 Pro Controller and a DualSense. In handheld mode, the Switch 2 latency ranged from a best-case 83ms to a worst-case 125ms.

Digital Foundry noted that the responsiveness on the Switch 2 simply isn't as good as on other consoles, describing the lag in portable mode as potentially deleterious to performance. However, the port is generally viewed positively regarding frame rates: multiplayer runs at 60fps most of the time, with VRR support helping to mitigate drops. The single-player campaign is capped at 30fps and utilizes dynamic resolution.

Regarding visual fidelity, the game targets 900p in docked mode with DLSS enabled, though resolution can drop to 450p during intense scenes, such as the Paris vehicle chase. In portable mode, the target is 720p, with drops reaching 360p. This marks the first Call of Duty release on Nintendo hardware in 13 years, following Ghosts on Wii U in 2013. The series' return is a result of a 10-year deal between Microsoft and Nintendo, established during the regulatory approval process for Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
