Minisforum S5 fanless NAS is official with Core 3 304 and five NVMe slots
Minisforum has officially listed the S5, a compact, fanless NAS built entirely around NVMe storage. The system is designed for silent operation and features a chassis that doubles as a large passive heatsink.
Architecture and Cooling
The S5 is powered by the Intel Core 3 304 from the Wildcat Lake family. This processor features five cores and five threads (one Performance-core and four Low Power Efficient-cores) with a boost clock of up to 4.3 GHz. With a base power of 15W and a maximum turbo power of 35W, the chip's thermal profile allows Minisforum to maintain a completely silent, fanless design using the aluminum chassis as a heatsink.
Storage and Connectivity
The device includes five M.2 2280 slots, each connected via a PCIe 4.0 x1 interface. Minisforum states the system can support up to 40TB of total storage, assuming up to 8TB per slot. However, the use of single-lane interfaces means that bandwidth and power delivery for each individual drive are limited compared to full x4 configurations.
For networking, the S5 provides one 10GbE port and one 2.5GbE port. It also features two USB4 ports (40Gbps), HDMI, and USB Type-A connectivity, alongside Wi-Fi 7 support.
Memory and Software
The retail configuration includes 16GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory running at up to 7500 MT/s and an onboard 64GB UFS module for the operating system. The system runs MinisCloud OS and supports MinisOpenClaw, which is Minisforum's software suite for local and cloud-assisted AI functions.
The Minisforum S5 is expected to launch in mid-October. Pricing has not yet been announced, and the official store currently only allows users to register for launch updates and potential discounts.
