Microsoft sets launch date for RTX Spark

Microsoft has officially announced a livestream for October 7, focusing on the Surface laptop lineup. However, the event is also expected to highlight the RTX Spark platform from NVIDIA, potentially marking a significant shift for high-performance mobile computing.

Technical details of the RTX Spark platform

Following the technical details shared by NVIDIA at IFA Berlin, the RTX Spark platform is expected to launch in two primary N1X configurations. The high-end variant will feature 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU shaders, supporting a unified memory range from 24 GB to 128 GB. The lower-tier N1X 18 model will consist of 18 CPU cores and 5,120 shaders, with memory capacity capped at 32 GB.

By comparison, the GB10 Superchip offers the same core and shader count but is designed for 128 GB of memory with a 140 W TDP. While all RTX Spark-based devices will support full ray tracing and DLSS features, it remains to be seen if NVIDIA and its partners will target the mainstream gaming segment. Pricing will likely be the deciding factor, as premium gaming laptops already command high price points.

OEM Partners and Availability

According to NVIDIA, approximately 30 different designs utilizing RTX Spark will be available at launch. Confirmed OEM partners include:

  • Asus (ProArt P14 and P16),
  • Dell (XPS 16),
  • HP (OmniBook X 14 and Ultra 16),
  • Lenovo (Yoga Pro 9n),
  • Microsoft (Surface Laptop Ultra),
  • MSI (Prestige N16 Flip AI+).

Further details regarding specific hardware configurations and market positioning are expected to emerge during the upcoming Microsoft presentation.
