Microsoft and Nvidia Unveil Surface Ultra and RTX Spark Dev Box

Microsoft and Nvidia have officially unveiled their hardware collaboration featuring the RTX Spark architecture. The high-end Surface Laptop Ultra notebook will be available for pre-order starting October 16, starting at €2,899, while the specialized RTX Spark Dev Box is priced at $5,999.99.

Surface Laptop Ultra: High-End Mini-LED Notebook

The flagship of the lineup is the 15-inch Surface Laptop Ultra. This clamshell notebook is less than 18 mm thick and weighs approximately 2 kg. It features a 3:2 aspect ratio Mini-LED touchscreen with up to 2,000 nits of brightness in HDR and a pixel density of 262 ppi.

Under the hood, the device utilizes Nvidia Blackwell architecture. Microsoft offers two SoC configurations: a 20-core Nvidia RTX Spark N1X with 6,144 shaders or an 18-core version with 5,120 shaders. Memory options include 24, 32, 64, or 128 GB of LPDDR5X. Notably, the device includes two M.2 NVMe slots (supporting PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0), allowing for an upgrade of the SSD.

A significant design change is the new magnetic USB-C charging port. Moving away from proprietary connectors, this magnetic solution is compatible with standard USB-C chargers. Regarding battery life, Microsoft claims up to 15 hours of local video playback at 150 nits or up to 12 hours of active internet usage.

RTX Spark Dev Box for Professionals

For heavy workloads, Microsoft introduced the RTX Spark Dev Box. The $5,999.99 price tag (excluding taxes) reflects its high-end specifications, including 128 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD out of the box. Currently, sales are exclusive to the US market, with international availability likely not arriving until 2027.
