Microsoft extends consultation period for Arkane Lyon
Microsoft has extended the consultation period regarding the future of Arkane Lyon by one month. The company is seeking a new owner for the studio, even as development on Marvel's Blade remains ongoing.
A Microsoft representative confirmed to PC Gamer that the extension is a defined part of the process, emphasizing their commitment to keeping the Works Council informed. The consultation process began in July, following Xbox's announcement that it would divest the studio as part of its broader organizational reset. The original deadline for these discussions was set for November 13.
However, the situation remains contentious. A representative from the Printemps Écologique trade union told Le Monde that negotiations regarding redundancy plans are progressing poorly. The union argues that the potential divestiture contradicts previous assurances about the studio's financial stability. According to the union, Microsoft is looking to offload Arkane Lyon to improve short-term profitability and reduce costs, despite the studio's successful performance.
Internal reports reviewed by Le Monde suggest that several forms of takeover are being considered. The reports also indicate that the implementation of a project for the definitive cessation of the company's activities is scheduled to begin in late 2026 and could extend into the first quarter of 2027. In response to inquiries from IGN, Microsoft stated they are actively seeking a partner to support the next phase of development and ensure the commercialization of the project.
