Metro Series: 50 Million Sales and Redux Technical Updates
The Metro series from 4A Games has reached a massive milestone, with total worldwide sales hitting 50 million copies. To celebrate this achievement, the developers are bringing technical refreshes to Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux through free updates that introduce modern graphical standards and next-gen console features.
Graphical Enhancements and Next-Gen Support
The upcoming updates for the Redux editions are described as meaningful technical improvements rather than a complete overhaul. The focus is primarily on visual fidelity and optimization for modern hardware. PC players can expect DLSS support and spatial audio. For current-generation consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S), the updates will provide native support, enabling a true 4K resolution at 60 FPS or an upscaled 4K mode at 120 FPS.

Key technical improvements include:
- 4K textures across all platforms;
- Enhanced animations, lighting, shadows, and particle effects;
- Real-time hardware tessellation and displacement on consoles;
- Support for PlayStation Adaptive Triggers and Xbox Impulse Triggers;
- Compatibility with console power-saving modes and Xbox Play Anywhere.
The PC updates are scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, followed by the console rollout on October 29, 2026.
Looking Ahead: Metro 2039
Alongside the celebrations, the release window for the next major installment, Metro 2039, has been confirmed for February 4, 2027. The title will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Earlier gameplay footage for the new entry was showcased running on a PlayStation 5 Pro.
