makazze: "If we play our best CS, we will make the major"
NAVI player Drin "makazze" Shaqiri spoke to HLTV.org regarding the team's preparations for ESL Pro League Season 24, their recent struggles, and the fight for a spot at PGL Major Singapore 2026. NAVI is set to face G2 in their opening match in Katowice.
Ahead of ESL Pro League Season 24, NAVI spent over ten days practicing from home. According to makazze, the team focused on correcting individual mistakes—such as unnecessary peeks—rather than implementing major structural changes. The player also noted that the team's map pool has improved, leaving them feeling more comfortable across all seven maps compared to previous tournaments.
The team's recent run of results has been difficult, placing their Major qualification hopes under scrutiny. makazze believes their struggles cannot be attributed to a single issue, describing it instead as a general period of poor form. However, he emphasized that he maintains a strong mentality and refuses to let past disappointments affect his focus on upcoming matches.
The race for PGL Major Singapore 2026 brings significant pressure, particularly given that NAVI has a history of never missing a Major. To combat this, the team has decided not to dwell on the potential consequences of failure. makazze stated that constantly thinking about missing the tournament creates unnecessary tension, and the team's approach is to simply focus on winning every match in front of them.
Regarding his individual performance, makazze admitted that the recent string of losses made it difficult to play at his peak. He noted that taking some time off to reset and enjoy life helped him clear his head, and he now feels he has regained his form heading into the next competition.
ESL Pro League Season 24 will take place from October 3 to 11 in Katowice, Poland. The tournament features 16 teams competing for a $1 million prize pool. NAVI begins their campaign on October 3 against G2.
