M80 secure spot at Roman Imperium Cup VIII
M80 have secured the last remaining spot at Roman Imperium Cup VIII. Although registration opened back on July 16th, spots filled up much slower than usual. With several vacancies until just a few days ago, M80 decided to lock in their participation on the same day they were eliminated from the Esports World Cup.
The tournament will run from September 10th to 13th in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The prize pool stands at €12,000 (~$13,880), with half going to the winner. Other notable teams confirmed for the event include SAW, Iberian Soul, Luminosity, and LOUD. The latter is reportedly making their Counter-Strike debut under the name LargadosyPelados.
This iteration features a different format than past events. It begins with two six-team round-robin groups, all played as Bo1 matches. The winner of each group advances to the playoffs; second and third place teams go to the play-in round, while those finishing third through sixth are eliminated. In the play-in stage, each second-place team faces the third-place team from the other group, sending two of the four teams to the main playoffs.
The eight-team playoffs will consist of the top two teams from the round-robins, the two winners of the play-in matches, and the four highest-seed signups determined by the September VRS. The playoffs will be a full Bo3, double-elimination bracket.
With M80 entering as one of the clear favorites for a deep run, success will be paramount as they look to right the ship after a rocky start to 2026's second season.
