Liquid eliminated from IEM Beijing after narrow loss to BETBOOM
Liquid’s run at IEM Beijing has come to an end following a hard-fought 1-2 series defeat to BETBOOM in the lower bracket final. Despite showing immense resilience with a comeback on Nuke, the North American side was unable to secure the decisive map, resulting in a 7th-8th place finish for the tournament.
After being dropped to the lower bracket following a 0-2 loss to PARIVISION, Liquid entered the final decider with everything to play for. They started the evening on the right foot by comfortably dispatching TYLOO with a 2-0 sweep, but the momentum shifted once they faced a highly motivated BETBOOM in the lower bracket final.
The series opened on Liquid's pick, Anubis. While Liquid initially looked in control with a 3-1 lead, BETBOOM responded with a dominant 6-2 run to seize control of the map. Despite a spirited effort, Liquid struggled to find their rhythm on the CT side, ultimately falling 13-5 and handing the first map to the Russian side.
BETBOOM then selected Nuke and appeared to be on the verge of a clean sweep. They dominated the first half, winning nine of the first ten rounds to leave Liquid in a massive deficit. However, Liquid refused to go quietly. Despite a difficult 8/16 opening duel record, they mounted a gritty comeback to steal the map 13-11, forcing a final decider on Mirage.
The decider on Mirage was a seesaw battle. BETBOOM took an early 5-2 lead, but Liquid fought back to level the score at 11-11. In the high-pressure closing stages, BETBOOM managed to find the necessary composure to secure a 13-11 victory, sealing the series and eliminating Liquid from the event.
Statistical Standouts
BETBOOM's victory was fueled by standout performances, most notably from Magnojez, who posted a massive 1.32 Rating 3.0 across the series and led the way with 21 kills on Anubis. S1ren also proved vital, particularly on the CT side of Nuke where he maintained a 1.76 rating.
For Liquid, EliGE was the most consistent performer, leading the team in kills on both Anubis and Nuke and maintaining a 1.06 rating. While the team showed they could compete with the top tier, they ultimately fell short of the IEM Beijing playoffs.
With their IEM Beijing campaign concluded, Liquid will now shift their focus to the upcoming PGL Major Singapore, which is scheduled to begin on November 24th.
